Many people are just longing to get out of the rat race and are enchanted by the opportunity to simplify their life and live abroad in a different culture. Simplifying your life does not have to infer frugality, but just means ridding yourself of superfluous commitments.
Living the Simple Life
Others who have lived, or are currently living abroad will echo my words.
For instance Samuel Brown expresses his experience of living abroad thus:
"When living abroad, all your emotions are amplified because you have less little stuff to worry about. No car, no family commitments, no tele-marketers, basically less responsibility. This is obviously not the case for all ex-pats, but was true for the people I worked with. Because there is less clouding your mind you are allowed, no, you have to feel things more, good or bad."
We cannot choose the country of our birth and many people living in democratic societies feel that they can have little to no influence over the way things are run. That being so, they might decide to join other people living abroad. They too might come to prefer the minimal commitments that come with living a simpler life.
In a previous posting in this thread I mentioned other reasons for living abroad like better weather, a lower cost of living and less stress.
Alternatively, just experiencing a foreign culture and lifestyle is enough motivation for some to move overseas.
Equipped with the right skills and qualifications you could change your location regularly and so experience many diverse cultures. Then you can simply live anywhere!
