Although many people are looking forward to moving abroad, one thing that holds some back is the fear of having to say goodbye to friends and loved ones at home. That is understandable, but it's really not necessary to say goodbye.

If you are self-employed, then you will possibly have the flexibility of being able to live anywhere you choose and consequently be able to travel when you wish. However, even if you are dependent on your employer, you might have discovered extra flexibility due to the fact that you are living abroad. In that case, your basis for negotiation will be greater. Maybe you can plan to take a long trip 'home' every year or several shorter trips throughout the year.
