Good Medical Service or Government Control Gone Mad? The Mosquito Police are checking householders to see if they have any mosquitos on their property.
This is not a hoax report, as was confirmed by a recent TV documentary. The Mosquito Police in Singapore is literally responsible for verifying that there are no mosquitos in private households. Regular checks in search for breeding grounds are made on roofs, balconies and other parts of the house. Drainpipes, washing facilities and balconies are typical place where the little insects lay their larvae.
If the Mosquito Police find a breeding ground, then the householder is issued with a warning. We didn't find out what happens if he is unable to eradicate them.
Certainly, mosquitos are a potential problem for the business traveller and other frequent travellers, as well as for residents in mosquito areas. However, one cannot help asking the question whether this is the case of an excellent public health service or Government control gone mad?
So if you are travelling to Singapore and planning a long stay, then do not buy property but rent it. At least then, you can move if the mosquitos stay!

We know that mosquitos can be very annoying and rob one of valuable sleep. In case you have forgotten your last experience, here is an amusing account of an evening that a Brummie living in China spent fighting kamikaze mossies. (Not so amusing for him though!) Mossies = English slang for mosquitos.
As mosquitos are hard to avoid in some parts, it is comforting to know where the specialist supplier for mosquito nets can be found. (We are not associated with this supplier.)
